iOS vs Android Performance Gaps in Meta Ads

By Affan Siddiqi, Founder, Psycomaths

A performance gap that shows iOS underperforming Android in Meta Ads reporting is usually a visibility gap, not a real behavior difference. iOS privacy restrictions limit how much Meta can see about iOS conversions specifically, so iOS performance looks worse in the dashboard even when real iOS revenue (visible in Shopify's own data) tells a different story.

Compare Meta's reported numbers against Shopify's actual device data

Shopify's own analytics can be filtered by device, which gives a real comparison point independent of what Meta can track. If Shopify shows iOS converting at a reasonable rate relative to Android while Meta shows a large gap, the gap is a measurement artifact, not a real audience difference.

iOS restrictions specifically limit post-click visibility

Privacy restrictions on iOS primarily affect what happens after someone clicks an ad, particularly in-app browser behavior, which is exactly the part of the funnel Meta needs to see to attribute a conversion. Android doesn't carry the same restriction, which is why the gap shows up asymmetrically rather than evenly across both platforms.

Conversions API narrows the gap but doesn't close it completely

A well-implemented Conversions API setup recovers some of the conversions Meta would otherwise miss on iOS, narrowing the apparent gap. It doesn't eliminate iOS-specific visibility limits entirely, so some reporting gap between the two platforms is expected to remain even with strong tracking.

Don't shift budget away from iOS based on the reported gap alone

Reducing iOS-targeted spend because Meta's dashboard shows it underperforming, without checking real revenue by device, risks cutting a channel that's actually working and simply under-measured. The budget decision should follow the real, cross-checked numbers, not the platform's own limited visibility into itself.
