One Full-Service Partner vs Five Specialist Vendors
By Affan Siddiqi, Founder, Psycomaths
Hiring separate specialist vendors for each function (ads, creative, automation, development) can offer deeper individual expertise in each area, at the cost of coordination overhead and the risk of each vendor optimizing their own piece without full visibility into how it affects the others. A single partner covering multiple services offers coordination and shared context across functions, at the tradeoff of potentially less specialized depth in any single area compared to a pure specialist.
Specialist vendors can offer deeper focus in their one area
A vendor focused entirely on one function (just creative, just development) can develop deep, narrow expertise in that specific area, which is a real advantage when that function is the clear priority and the brand has the internal capacity to coordinate across multiple vendors.
Coordination overhead is a real, often underestimated cost
Multiple vendors each need briefing, context, and ongoing coordination, and someone (usually the brand itself) has to own making sure each vendor's work is consistent with and informed by what the others are doing. That coordination effort is a real cost that doesn't show up in any single vendor's invoice.
Siloed optimization can work against the bigger picture
A creative vendor optimizing purely for ad engagement and a development vendor optimizing purely for site speed, without shared visibility into how creative and landing experience interact, can each do good work individually while the combined customer experience still has gaps neither vendor was positioned to see.
A single partner trades some specialization for shared context
A partner covering multiple connected functions has direct visibility into how the ad account, creative, and website interact, which can catch issues a siloed specialist wouldn't see, in exchange for potentially less narrow, specialist-level depth in any one specific area compared to a dedicated expert in just that function.
