What to Do When Meta Rejects Your Ads or Disables Your Account
By Affan Siddiqi, Founder, Psycomaths
Meta rejecting ads repeatedly or disabling an ad account outright is one of the most frustrating things that can happen to a Shopify brand running paid acquisition, and Meta's own explanations are usually vague. Most rejections trace back to a small set of policy triggers, and most account disables trace back to patterns Meta's automated review flags, not deliberate rule-breaking.
Most rejections are about the claim, not the product
Meta's ad review has moved toward enforcing based on what the ad copy and creative claim, not just the product category. A supplement, skincare, or health-adjacent product ad gets rejected far more often for a specific phrase (a guarantee, a cure claim, a before/after framing without the right context) than for the product itself. Reading the actual rejection reason Meta gives, not just resubmitting the same ad, is the fastest fix.
Account-level disables are usually pattern-based, not single-ad based
A single rejected ad rarely disables an account. What triggers a disable is usually a pattern: repeated policy violations across multiple ads, a cluster of disapprovals in a short window, or signals Meta's system associates with risk. Understanding this matters because fixing one ad doesn't address what actually triggered the review.
The appeal process is real but slow
Meta does have a genuine appeal path for both ad rejections and account disables, and it does work in cases where the enforcement was wrong or overly broad. It's also slow and often requires a clear, specific explanation rather than a generic appeal message. Documenting exactly what the ad claimed and why it complies with policy, rather than just asking for a review, gets better outcomes.
Preventing the next one matters more than fighting the last one
Once an account has been flagged once, it's under more scrutiny, not less. The more durable fix is building a review process for new ad copy and creative before it goes live, specifically checking it against the claims Meta is actively enforcing on, which change often enough that a policy check from a year ago isn't reliable anymore.
