Why Your Meta Ads Tracking Looks Broken Right Now
By Affan Siddiqi, Founder, Psycomaths
When Meta Ads conversions suddenly look wrong, the account itself usually isn't the problem. iOS privacy restrictions, a Shopify pixel or tracking setting change, or a shift in how Meta attributes conversions can all make a healthy account look broken on the dashboard. The fix starts with confirming whether revenue actually dropped or whether only the reporting did.
Check Shopify revenue before touching the ad account
The fastest way to tell a real drop from a measurement problem is comparing Shopify's own revenue dashboard to what Meta is reporting for the same period. If Shopify revenue held steady while Meta's reported conversions fell, the campaigns are very likely still working. What changed is what Meta can see, not what the campaigns are doing.
iOS privacy settings hide real conversions from Meta
Apple's ongoing privacy restrictions on iOS continue to limit how much Meta can see about what happens after someone clicks an ad, especially in-app browser behavior and later session tracking. A real purchase can happen and Meta's dashboard simply never finds out. This isn't new, but each round of iOS and browser privacy changes makes it worse, and most accounts never fully recover the visibility they had years ago.
Platform-side changes can shift what gets counted, not just what gets blocked
Beyond privacy restrictions, both Shopify and Meta periodically change default settings that affect attribution and event reporting. A pixel configuration change, a default mode switch in how events are sent, or a change in how Meta weighs ad-driven conversions can all move the number on the dashboard without anything in the account actually breaking. These changes rarely come with a clear announcement merchants see in time.
Fix the signal before touching campaigns
Checking Pixel and Conversions API setup, confirming event match quality, and deduplicating events correctly comes before any bid, budget, or creative change. Making account-level changes to react to a tracking problem usually makes the real diagnosis harder, not easier, since now there are two things that changed at once.
